that pretty much says it right there. On a screen smaller than 32 inches or so, you wouldn't see the difference between 1080P and 720 p anyways.

he's looking at a
26"
720p, 1366 x 768 resolution, 16:9 widescreen

mark gave me advice on teh small one i bought, but i don't remember what he said

That should be more than adequate.... Decent enough price as well....

Main thing is... will he have an HD source to hook up to it...

if not it really doesn't matter

480i is basic standard definition

720p is good enough for most HDTV stuff as far as most people are concerned. there's not alot of stuff right now being broadcasted in 1080p, although it's starting to come around

There is no broadcast source for 1080P programming now. The only source is bluray or HD dvd.

oops...I think you mistyped there. The broadcast networks .cable systems and satellite systems deliver HD content in either 720P OR 1080i. None deliver 1080P

Well if he has a TV that is CAPABLE of 720p that is great. but if he just hooks up cable or a non HD source to it... ie digital cable or satellite but doesn't get an HD package it will not be at 720p and not in HD need to connect an HD capable device to it to get HD

not including over the air of course

Sorta yes. Need to have an HD sat reciever to have HD programming...
