As a web-domain-buying virgin, explain to me how some web domains can be worth more than others. Don't you build sites from the ground up, i.e., make a name for yourself and slowly reach internet popularity?

Like any address some are going to get more traffic than other because of location. In this case the location is just the name. Sex.com for example would never need to be developed and people would still go look at it. Something like MySpot.com also may get a visits because of it's similarity to myspace. Some domains will just have traffic built in. In this case there is some already and I'll be paying for that premium.

It's not cheaper in the long run to just make money from making your name? I mean I know myself that when I'm looking for a website, I don't just plug in names into my bar-thingy. I go to Google and search for the topic. Maybe I'm just weird though.
