another reason why baseball is a joke.

not to mention hyow can you expect "athletes" to "hustle" after theyve been standing in one spot in teh outfield for 20 mins? or the dugout waiting for their one atbat every 2 or 3 innings

bloopsers into the outfield will never get a guy out even if the outfielders hustle...now if it is a fucking line drive, one hop to the RF, then MAYBE he could get the guy granted he was really fucking slow...they don't waste extra effort if it's not needed...bloopers are sure hits...the only time i get mad is when it is a grounder and i see guys jogging down the first base...hustle that shit out

more people needed to be like Pete Rose

did you play baseball man? in all my years of playing, i think i have seen a total of about 3 guys thrown out from the outfield to first base and that was because it was scorched to the RF and he was playing shallow and one hopped it and threw it to first...

it literally happens about .005% of the time..and the stop and watch it hit the fence...once again...making those catches are fucking hard and sometimes, aka most of the time, it is better to position yourself to play it off the fence to limit them to a double...

just like why lay out to try and catch the ball when you know you probably won't get it and then it scoots to the fence for a triple of in the park HR...play it safe and limit them to what they earned

yeah going from a field who's fence is 350 dead center to 420 is a bit different...plus bigger fields, so they play further back, and not to mention guys are running down first base with a few seconds..literally..

like i said, the only hustle i wish more would do is hustle out infield hits...anything can happen..errors and such..AND HR hits...fucking run those bases until it is for sure over...i hate seeing people get singles after jogging to first base and then it hits the wall..you just hit a 410 foot single, congrats man

LOL...Pro baseball players hustle? :/

I wish more players were like David Eckstein.

I think the game would be more fun...but everyone just wants to see all the juiced up guys hitting long home runs.

The guy could trip on the way to first or miss the base.

oh and how often has that happened Web?

fucking really...and it is not applying pressure to them if they are already walking back to the bag after running through it when the ball gets to first base..

all it is doing is adding in another situation where an error could happen...basically...what is more likely...you throwing the guy out at first, or overthrowing, underthrowing, booting the ball, first baseman misplays it, doesnt catch it, lets it skip by him..etc..

SO much more risk than reward...think about it people..i want to see more hustle but why take the risk

actually, trying to make htat play results in an error more than an out..

not worth it.

if we're talking about trying to make a play at first from the outfield, thats a bad idea usually.
you're taught in HS not to do that, it's not to do with hustle

It depends on the situation. Plenty of guys are slow from the box. If you make no effort to put yourself in position to make a play you never will get an advantage from one.

did you seriously ever play baseball?

even slow guys out of the box can beat a ball thrown from the outfield into first 99.99% of the time

it is NOT worth it...you will get the guy out at most 1/1000 times...it just does not happen AT all unless some freak occurrence happens...errors happen a hell lot more...the probability to making an error to getting the guy out at first is a lot more...so why do it?

he had to hustle to get to the big leagues, otherwise hes basically worthless, he gets hit a lot, big deal. Ever see the guy throw? he has to put his whole body into it to get it from ss to 1b. I know baseball salaries are nuts but when he signed his deal with the cards a while back i couldnt believe he was getting 10 mill for 3 years or whatever he got.

Do you even watch baseball? How often do throws from the outfield actually result in errors? I would bet outfielders make less throwing errors than infielders.

throws from the outfield are rarely accurate, errors are rarely given because they're very difficult throws.
there is a reason you are taught from a young age to throw to cutoff or 2nd from the outfield

well if you only need to throw it when it's a close call...guess what, you are never going to be throwing it in unless the guy seriously falls down as soon as he hits the ball

Fine I'll buy a team and prove you all wrong. Anyone want loan me 2 billion so I can buy the yanks? or maybe 500k so I can buy Red Sox

How about joining a local baseball or softball team, playing right field, and proving everybody wrong.

Start small and work your way up.
